Our FFXVANE Hub Community Member of the Month for April is none other than… *Drumroll* Kato! Thank you for everyone who participated in the voting process. Please don’t worry that if your pick didn’t win, there will be multiple attempts to vote for them throughout the year! So please, relax, and enjoy a little more information with the full interview below:
What do you enjoy the most about FFXANE?
The thing I enjoy the most about FFXVANE is the community. Like most of the players, I first got into FFXVANE from seeing the tower protection ad pop up from another game. As a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, I downloaded it. FFXVANE was my first MMORPG, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect.
On the first night of gameplay, I was attacked, then invited to join the guild of my attackers. I’ve been with that guild since. There were several changes since then, but the community has grown and has been the main reason why I’ve continued to play.
In the early stages of the game, the strategy, organization, the sense of accomplishment, and sadistic need to watch other empires burn was enjoyable and made me want to continue playing and lose sleep over. It still is but has been difficult to achieve lately due to the increasing gap between empire levels…and the worry that your bubble will pop while you sleep.
But your guild and community are still there to give their condolences after all your troops have died and your hero is being tormented – but hopefully being fed – in someone’s dungeon.
What’s your favorite part of the community?
My favorite part of the community is the support given and entertainment presented by the variety of members it’s compiled of.
Each member of the community has something to offer. In-game, there are the socialites, strategist, pyromaniacs…even a couple of nuts (okay, a lot of nuts!). The HUB community goes beyond that. With a neutral POV, focusing on sharing the information and helping new, returning and advanced players with charts, reposting blogs and mail, event criteria and rewards, tips/tricks, and of course… ARTICLEEESSSS!!! (Hee-hee)
I had stiff competition with two other very talented and supportive members of the community. Donel, with her attention to detail and diligent work with reposting and summarizing the blog posts and email, then reposting them again either when the event is back…or when something was corrected. Draco’s contribution to the charts, completing or making charts from the ones missing when the game first started, and now continuing with the building charts. Let’s not forget when the albums were nuked and Draco nearly singlehandedly restored them. It was truly an honor to be nominated alongside both of them.
If members lucky enough to develop a friendship with someone based on personalities, interests, and not just about the game that’s amazeballs! It gives a more enjoyable aspect of the gameplay. (Loves you forever!!! You know who you are!)
The downside is if you’re cursed and unfortunately encounter a troll or someone that gives a negative aspect to the game, you can deal with it in a couple of different ways. Block them. Ignore them. Don’t be spiteful…but, if it’s game-related, burn them. If you can’t burn them yourself…that’s when you get the support of the community and get them to burn that person… it’ll be highly entertaining too!
With such a variety of people in the community, everyone is bound to encounter someone they don’t get along with. You won’t be able to change them, but you can choose how to handle it in a way that won’t affect your gameplay. Think of all the other wonderful and amazing people within the community, cut the toxic people out, it’ll make more room for the positive and keep game and community fun.
What advice do you give to new and advanced players?
Spend wisely. It’s every player’s choice on how much or little they spend in-game. Neither should they be judged for being one or the other. We’ve all had that @%#%!! moment of regretting buying a particular pack. But part of the strategy of the game is knowing which packs to invest in. Permanent boosts. MP. Instant research/builds. Something to boost your overall gameplay and not something to simply and temporarily increase your power level. At this point in the game it’s no longer about bloating but strategically having the research and skills mapped out. Be thankful to those who have spent the money, they’re the ones who contribute the information for charts and articles that most of the community refer to.
Find good people. Don’t be in a guild just because of their power levels or the number of gifts…although it does help a bit. But, find a guild with like-minded or similar gameplay as you. Find people you get along with, joke with, learn, and grow with, offer the support you need. HAVE FUN!!! Based on the community alone, you don’t need to be in the same guild, realm, or server to have fun or get that support. It’s all about the people you surround yourself with.
Accept your limitations. It’s always a sad thing to see members of the community leave. But knowing and accepting when you’ve reached your limit will help you out in the end. People who reached their limits and left the game (too expensive, it’s no longer fun, needing to prioritize something else over game), hoping they’d come back or keep in touch. Changing from a paying player to a F2P, will cause additional work and needing to accept that you may not be a top player and be as competitive as others. But you can and may still get to strategize a way to enjoy the game.
What are some of your favorite memories of FFXVANE?
There are SO many favorite memories – some of which are not appropriate to share in public! (PINEAPPLE!). From my earliest memories of meeting players who made a huge impact in my gameplay and continue to do so in-game and personally. To PMs being accidentally posted on GC – or worse, RC.
First memories of getting a red tag, green tag, actually holding crystal (not for skill testing or switching! Yay me! …although I didn’t do the bulk of work). Hero getting captured after being one-hit-zeroed. Surprisingly being an effective trap, being able to capture and hold heroes! Actually receiving hate mail! Lurking on RC, while people troll each other!
Being used as a guinea pig whenever there were new troops released or a need to test out armor and gem setups. Expecting food as a reward or trade-off. (Yes, food is also involved in-game).
Late-night rendezvous or “black-op” missions when I would be the spotter and just sadistically chuckle when a target is burning. Speed runs when they were possible…repeatedly creating and disbanding guilds over and over and over.. what fun that was! Being used as bait so that stronger players get an advantage.
A few of my favorite memories – although controversial – are when I am required to fill/join a rally or crystal using several different accounts, within a limited timeframe …during pre-dark world when presets weren’t a thing yet. Doing so while pulling an all-nighter. Passing out then waking up to reading on GC that “uh-oh, I think we lost Kato, we’ll continue when she’s awake”… oops.
What’s your favorite Ice Cream?
That’s like asking what my favorite kind of taco is! Salted Caramel? Coffee? Peanut butter? Cake? With Pie? Mmmmm. Pie.
My go-to mix at Marble Slab (Canadian version of USA’s Coldstone Creamery) is Cheesecake Ice Cream with snickers, brownies, skor toffee bits, pretzels, ribbons of caramel and peanut butter drizzle mixed in. Server in a waffle bowl…and a side of diabetes.
What’s your favorite Taco?
#%@$*£#!!! Fish tacos. Shrimp tacos. Beef tacos. Chicken tacos. Pork tacos. Softshell tacos. Hardshell tacos. Tasty tacos! Delicious Tacos! Tacos are LIFE! Tacos every day! If a restaurant can mix n’ match your taco platter… it’s a place where you want to go, where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came.
My favorite taco is a freshly made taco with fresh and delicious ingredients.
What’s your favorite Coffee?
I’m currently supporting the trend of “Dalgona (Whipped) Coffee”. Especially in a boba drink format (as seen in my Coffee and Conversation video).
For a fancy caffeinated drink: Starbuck’s non-fat, with whip, triple-shot caramel brûlée latte… during the holidays.
Otherwise, Tim Horton’s large double-double.
