The power of King of Lucis, aka the rulers of yore, formed the Lucis Caelum bloodline that creates Crystal’s powers in the FFXV Universe. They are monarchs in the kingdom of Lucis. Legends say that the Crystal is a spiritual origin and was offered to humanity along with the Ring of Lucli. The Ring of Lucli holds Crystal’s powers for those who are lucky enough to be chosen.

When a monarch of Lucis passes away, their spirit is taken by the Ring of Lucli. Whoever is fortunate enough to obtain and able to wear the ring can communicate with the spirits of the past kings and queens among the bloodline, known as the Lucli, whose spirits remain in the ring.

And now in FFXV: A New Empire, our Empires may now house the spirits of the ancient Lucian Kings and Queens who are the ancestors of Noctis. The first King of Luci’s bloodline Somnus is motivated to assist you beside you to battle darkness.

Summon the mighty spirit of Somnus from the King of Lucis!

Conclave of Lucis

Conclave of Lucis Building unlockThe Conclave of Lucis requires a building unlock in order to open up. As of now, its only attainable from the Gold Store. Once unlocked, you can summon the spirit, similar to how you summon the Astrals and Mounts.

Once the King of Lucis is summoned, he will provide passive boosts to your Troops. You do not send him in a march or anything, so don’t worry if you do not see him as an add on to your marches. So if you are defending your Empire, the Crystal, Tiles, you name it, he is there for you! The same goes for attack mode.

The Summoning Power will dictate the strength of your spirit. Each of the spirits will have its own Summoning Power, again just like the Astrals and Mounts. The higher the Summoning Power, the better your attack and health stats will be.

Somnus

The first of the bloodline of the mighty kings before us is now available for us to summon.

First things first, remember that you need to actually summon the spirit in order for the boost to be activated. He will require Somnus Empowerment Sigils to level and currently maxes at level 50.

Psst.. there’s a sigils chart below!

Now the neat thing is while your King of Lucis is NOT conducting anything to help you outside your Empire, he is right there ready to defend it. When an enemy attacks you, his defense from his Summoning Power will automatically jump an additional 5%! This is a passive boost that already comes with him right out the gate, so no worries about the prerequisites behind it. It will be in the first section of his skill tree.

But let’s break down his skill tree and see what boosts he has to offer for us!

Somnus Skill Tree

King of Lucis: Somnus Skill TreeSomnus Summoning Power

Increases Somnus Summoning Power by 40,000%. Summoning Power directly increases the attack and health of your Troops. Summoning Power is enhanced by 5% while defending your Empire.

Somnus: Dark Troop Armor

Grants additional Dark Troop Armor by 150B%

Somnus: Dark Troop Attack

Enhances Dark Troop Attack up to 100B%

Somnus: Dark Troop Health

Increases Dark Troop Health by 50B%

Dark Warrior Troops

Boosts your Dark Warrior Troops all around by increasing your Dark Warrior Attack by 150B%, Dark Warrior HP up to 75B%, and Dark Warrior Armor by 225B%

Dark Juggernaut Troops

Benefits your Dark Juggernauts overall by enhancing your Dark Juggernaut Attack by 100B%, Dark Juggernaut HP up to 50B%, as well as your Dark Juggernaut Armor by 150B%

Dark Earth Troops

Increases your Dark Earth Troops stats everywhere by providing additional 100B% Dark Earth Troop Attack, 50B% Dark Earth Troop HP, along with 150B% Dark Earth Troop Armor

Dark Troop Attack with Gilgamesh

*Requires Dark Warrior Troops, Dark Juggernaut Troops, and Dark Earth Troops skill sections at level one to unlock

Grants 70B% Dark Troop Attack with Gilgamesh (yes, your Gilgamesh must be active for this boost to benefit you.)

Dark Troop HP and Armor

*Requires Dark Troop Attack with Gilgamesh skill level one to unlock

Increases your Dark Troop HP by 40B% and provides up to 120B% Dark Troop Armor.

Dark Troop Attack

*Requires Dark Troop Attack with Gilgamesh skill level one to unlock

Increases Dark Troop Attack by 80B%

Grand Total

When it comes to looking at numbers overall from another point of view. Collectively at maxed level, Somnus gives you:

  • 40k% Somnus Summoning Power
  • 150B% Somnus: Dark Troop Armor
  • 100B% Somnus: Dark Troop Attack
  • 50B% Somnus Dark Troop Health
  • 150B% Dark Warrior Attack
  • 75B% Dark Warrior HP
  • 225B% Dark Warrior Armor
  • 100B% Dark Juggernaut and Earth Troop Attack
  • 50B% Dark Juggernaut and Earth Troop HP
  • 150B% Dark Juggernaut and Earth Troop Armor
  • 70B% Dark Troop Attack with Gilgamesh
  • 40B% Dark Troop HP
  • 120B% Dark Troop Armor
  • 80B% Dark Troop Attack

Those are some pretty hefty boosts, aren’t they? But are they practical for you? Let’s go over how he should be skilled to benefit you the most then compare him to other areas in the game to get an idea of how strong he is.

How Should I Skill Him?

For starters, Summoning Power is very similar to Rank for Mounts. So prioritize that right away. That will be the most important one to skill. It will help you in any situation you are in. Win-win situation! Then you want to look into Somnus’ stats himself to beef him up, after all, he is going to be your big knight in shining armor!

Then if you are a defender lean towards the Earth Troop section, whether as the attackers would gravitate towards the Juggernaut stats.

Since there are no Elemental boosts, then we do not have to worry about that. Just like the Astrals and Mounts, they are level locked, so you will have to skill as you progress him.

How Does He Compare?

Since we do not have any Luci’s ancestors to compare him to, we can compare his overall stats with another Mount to give us an idea if he is powerful since they are similar in ways just like the Astrals. After all, it’s the reason why we want to know if he is worth the investment or not.

Let’s compare him to Lucky Chocobo, the most powerful Mount we have to date. If you have not gotten the chance to read about the Mount yet, then check out my Lucky Chocobo guide!

Somnus vs. Lucky Chocobo

Somnus Dark Troop stats:

  • 80B% Dark Troop Attack
  • 40B% Dark Troop HP
  • 120B% Dark Troop Armor

Lucky Chocobo Dark Troop stats:

  • 185B% Dark Troop Attack
  • 45B% Dark Troop HP
  • 135B% Dark Troop Armor

So going based on Dark Troop stats, we can say that Somnus isn’t quite as powerful as Lucky Chocobo. However, keep in mind that Lucky Chocobo is the most powerful Mount at this time. Let’s check the stats with the Winter Griffon, the Mount that was released before that one, and compare them.

Somnus vs. Winter Griffon

Somnus Dark Troop stats:

  • 80B% Dark Troop Attack
  • 40B% Dark Troop HP
  • 120B% Dark Troop Armor

Winter Griffon Dark Troop stats:

  • 4B% Dark Troop Attack
  • 100M% Dark Troop HP
  • 300M% Dark Troop Armor

As we can see, he is much stronger than the Winter Griffon, but not quite Lucky Chocobo strong. That does give us a good idea of where Somnus lies with his strength. Remember, he did just come out, and he is this strong already! So imagine when future levels are released, what he may have in store for him.

He does have his own specialties that the others do not as well. With that being said, he does have his own compelling stats. The others do not touch in comparison — for example, Dark Earth and Juggernaut Troops.

Check out the chart below to see how many Empowerment Sigils you need for Somnus!

Conclusion

With this new feature released upon Eos, allowing us to summon the spirits of our ancestors, we can cause some severe damage when attacking or being hit. Passive boosts are one of the best things in FFXV: ANE, does this mean trapping may become a thing again? Time will tell.

A couple of things to keep in mind about Somnus:

  • He is passive as soon as he is unlocked and boosts his defense by an additional 5% when you are defending.
  • Even though he may not be as powerful as Lucky Chocobo, he does come in a close second and easily overpowers the Winter Griffon. As well as having his own special advantages, the others do not. Remember, he is not an Astral or Mount, so he makes an excellent addition to standing by them.

Do you have the King of Lucis? If so, how do you skill him? Comment below or reach out to us on our Social Media channels, aka Line and or Discord and let us know! Not in our FFXVANE Hub Line room and would like to be? I got you, darling, add me by ID: peacefulwarrior414, and we will see you there!
