Put on your waders and grab your tackle box, fishing has come to EOS! Fancy some quiet time on the lake? Lean back in your chair and cast your rod, as we discuss the new Fishing Mini-game!
What is Fishing?
Fishing in FFX is… exactly what it sounds like. There is now a building where you can fish for various types and levels of fish. Sometimes you will catch a fish, and something you will catch junk from the bottom of the lake. Bait increases your chance for catching something good, which we will go over later in this guide.
Where do I Fish?
In order to Fish, you must enter the Fishing Hut. All players have this new building unlocked for free. It is located to the left of the Casino.
Upon entering the Fishing Hut you will see four options.
- Locations: This is where you will enter to Fish. There are multiple lakes, but they are not always open. Royal Lake is open all the time for your fishing needs.
- Fishing Level: This shows your current fishing level. You level this up by adding Fish EXP, which is currently earned by fishing. The higher the level, the higher your fishing boosts. The highest level is currently 50.
- Fish Bait and Inventory: This shows your current Fish and Meat Items and Bait
- Collection: Check out what Fish you have caught here!
How do I Fish?
Once you have entered the Fishing Hut and chosen your location, You will see your rod in front of you.
First, decide if you want to use bait. It is not necessary but increases your chances of catching something good. The Bait option is to the upper right in the above picture. Each Bait gives a boost to your cast, and those other than Royal Lake Bait are focused on catching specific fish.

Once you have decided if you want to use bait (and equipped it if desired), cast your rod. When you catch a fish you will be prompted to “Reel In”. Once you do this a bar will come up with a green area that you must stay in to catch the fish. Press your finger down until you’re inside the green bar and then tap tap tap to stay there until the Fish (or junk) is caught (their Stamina bar will deplete).
You can catch the following Fish in the Royal Lake;
- Horned Bluegill
- Lucian Catfish
- Nebula Salmon
- Pink Jade Gar
- Tide Grouper
- Snakehead
- Golden Trout (most rare)
Each fish comes in Quality Level 1-6, with increasing rewards for each level.
Event Lakes and Bait
In addition to Royal Lake, there are other fishing areas that open for events. You can fish for normal fish at these lakes, but to catch the special fish within their depths you need special bait. This bait can be found in packs primarily, although occasionally there will be bait in events or Luna gifts. Some examples of the special Lakes are;
- Carbuncle River; Catch Treasure-Seeker Catfish using Treasure Seeker Catfish bait.
- Bluegill Basin; Catch Fan Bluegill using Fan Bluegill Bait
- Sunset Cove: Catch Allural Sea Bass using Allural Sea Bass Bait
- Alstor Lake: Catch the Alstor Barramundi using Alstor Barramundi Bait.
- Great Grouper Creek:
- Rainbow Trout using Rainbow Trout Bait
- Great Tide Grouper using Great Tide Grouper Bait
- Cherrycomb Trout using Cherrycomb Trout Bait
- Jade Snakehead using Jade Snakehead Bait
Note that these baits have guaranteed catch, as they are more expensive. They will show as gold in the screenshot above. The prizes are also much better than the “normal” fish you catch. This is just a partial list of prizes, it goes on for several pages. There is also a Guaranteed Catch: Royal Lake Bait, but it only is a guarantee to catch any normal fish in the Royal Lake.
There is almost always an event going for fishing. They generally use a combination of requiring special Bait and catching regular fish. You can complete them by catching normal fish, but it takes a long time and a lot of tapping dedication. The hourly mini-events are much easier to complete with just catching a regular fish, so make sure and do those when they pop up!

Gear
What’s a good Fisherperson without Fishing Gear? Of course, there’s Gear, and it comes in the form of a Fishing Rod! The Fishing Rod is not sold complete in packs but rather crafted in the Armory. Catching Fish gives you materials for crafting this (if you’re lucky).
A Level 6 Rod gives the following stats:
- 25% Successful Catch Chance
- 30% Bait Efficiency
- 25% Hook Speed
Moogle Market
The is a Fishing Moogle Market open at various times to earn items such as Fish Bait, Trusty Rod Gear Chests, Fishing EXP 10% Bonus, and Fishing Avatars. Be sure to stock up on bait here when it’s open for purchases. You earn “meat” to exchange in the Fishing Market by fishing.
