Ardyn: A New Hero Emerges

Ardyn Izunia, the newest hero in FFXV:ANE

Ardyn Izunia, the newest hero brought to us in Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire. Is he a hero or is he a villain? Who cares, he brings us more hero levels to use as we please! This is our Dark World attack hero. Shrouded in mystery, he presents himself as an eccentric person with a dark past. Supposedly, you will want him by your side instead of King Noctis. Let’s see how his Hero Skill tree unfolds.

Hero Skills Tree

His hero skills start off as purely battle focused with attack, armor, health, and march size increases. Then we see rally, assault, and production boosts. Even further down we see MORE boosts for your troops. If that wasn’t enough, there is a Dark Troop Attack II and III at the end. This brings back memories from the releases of Prompto, Ravus, and then Gladio 300. You guys really do love your offense heroes! Are we in store for a new Dark defensive hero? Who could it be? Anyways, let’s check out these stats…

All the skills are available at Hero Level 1 but have their own prerequisite skills before you can activate that particular skill.

Since there are a few skills that are the same, I’ll total them all here. A max skilled Ardyn will give you:

+155% Dark Troop attack
+50% Dark Troop health
+100% Dark Troop armor
+200,000 Dark march size
+195% Dark Mage, Warrior, and Cavalry attack
+425% Dark Mage, Warrior, and Cavalry armor
+75% Dark Mage, Warrior, and Cavalry health
+180,000,000% BASIC troop attack bonus
+50% Dark rally attack
+100% Dark rally health
+500,000 Dark rally capacity
+50% Dark Crystal holding attack
+50% Dark Crystal defense health
+100% Dark City assault attack
+50% Dark Stone, Dark Food, Dark Gil, Dark Metal, and Dark Energy resource production bonus

Hero Mastery Skills (Line) Tree

  • Dark Troop Armor: Increases the armor of all Dark troops up to a max of 200%. Requires Ardyn level 55.
  • Dark Troop HP: Increases the HP of all Dark troops up to a max of 100%. Requires Ardyn level 55.
  • Troop Attack: Increases the attack of all troops up to a max of 180,000,000%. (Does NOT apply to Dark troops!!!!) Requires Ardyn level 50.

Again, they don’t have these listed in order of hero level. Troop attack should be first on that line… grr!

Also, another thing to note would be the increase in basic troop attack stats. Could this mean that our older troops are making a comeback? Will the 180 million percent boost be enough to make them strong enough to hold their own against these Dark Troops?

(EDIT: I haven’t seen MP carryover since the first pack offer…) His pack comes with an MP Carryover boost, and I don’t know if I’ve ever said this before… but be sure to use an MP boost when leveling up your shiny, new heroes! Don’t lose any of your precious MP, because I’m sure we are going to see a Dark Moogle Monster Market event coming. Hitting monsters has never been so exciting or easier! We don’t lose MP if the monster dies before your hero attacks. Your hero will only use the amount of MP it takes to actually KILL the monster. No more lost MP from a Max Attack, YAY!!! MP carryover is so nice to have, especially when you can hit a monster and it levels up a new hero multiple times.

All in all

Ardyn’s troop boosts are a bit higher than King Noctis, even if his resource production is lower. But, we can’t have EVERYTHING! It seems that Ardyn will be the hero of choice for attacking, especially at a higher level. I’m interested in seeing at what level he becomes a better choice for offensive attacks.

Another note, there’s no monster 9 skill in Ardyn’s hero tree. I guess that is a benefit that only King Noctis will have until we see otherwise?

    Nice article!

Ardyn actually does have a Mastery tree. Three skills, like King Noctis, with all three beginning at level 55:

    Dark Troop Armor, max 200%
    Dark Troop HP, max 100%
    Basic Troop Attack, max 180M%

Thank you for pointing that out! I edited the article to reflect that. Not sure why it didn’t show on my account at that time.
