The Great Hero Debate

One of the most common questions we hear in FFXV:ANE is, “Which Hero do I use for what?” With such a wide range of Heroes to choose from, each with their own unique skills, the choice of which to use can become paralyzing. Am I using the right Hero to maximize my strategy? you might ask yourself. The ultimate answer depends on your individual stats and goals, but let’s take a closer look at each Hero below.

Noctis

Noctis

The original Hero, Noctis may not be as strong as his brethren, but still has useful applications. Additionally, new Hero Masteries have come to Eos for your use. At maximum Hero Level 150, Noctis gains significant March and Rally Size gains, along with Core Troop and Elemental Attack.

Pros

  • March Size and Rally Size Increase
  • Extra March Slot
  • Research and Construction Speed
  • The only Hero with Hero Attack for hitting Monsters
  • Limit Break: Armigear Enchantment

Cons

  • Maximum Attack Stats are much lower than more recent heroes under Hero 125.
  • Other boosts are not as significant as comparable level Heroes.

Prompto

His excellent skills like Armor Piercing and Armor Shredding smash the opposition, especially at Hero Level 100+.

  • Rally Size increase
  • Rally Attack, City Assault HP and City Assault Attack
  • Armor Shredding

Cons

  • Not a strong Defensive Hero
  • Attack Stats pale in comparison to newer Heroes

Luna

Luna

Luna is beloved by many Crystal players for her Crystal-specific Skills. She also is a decent Defensive Hero due to her hospital capacity and City Defense Skills.

Pros

  • Allows for a higher hospital capacity
  • Double Athena gifts
  • City Defense Armor, HP and Attack for Defensive Skilling at lower hero levels
  • Crystal HP and Attack
  • Mage based attack skills

Cons

  • Ravus’ Crystal abilities blow Luna out of the water at a high Hero Level, so if a Ravus is attacking, Luna will most likely lose.

Ignis

One of the least commonly used Offensive and Defensive Heroes, Ignis still has applicable uses

  • Analyze Weakness and Master Tactician

Cons

  • Not a strong Defensive Hero
  • Not a strong Offensive Hero at lower levels

Aranea

Aranea brings Mercenary skills to the table, along with Cavalry specialization.

Pros

  • Cavalry-specialized Offensive Hero at a high level is exceedingly strong.
  • Mercenary Training and Cost Reductions
  • Mercenary Troop Capacity Increase
  • Mercenary Attack and HP Skills make this a viable Defensive Hero for traps specializing in Mercenary Troops

Cons

  • Only Cavalry and Mercenary specialization available

Gladiolus

Rounding out the Troop-specific Heroes is Gladio with Warrior skills. Additionally, his abilities contain skills to boost Commander Rally Attack and HP. Currently, Gladio is also the strongest Defensive Hero due to his Steal HP and Steal Attack skills.

Pros

  • Very strong offensively, especially at high Hero Levels
  • Commander Skilling
  • Strong Defensive abilities like Steal HP and Steal Attack

Cons

  • Expensive to level up
  • No skilling for multiple troop types

Ravus

Arguably the strongest Offensive Hero, Ravus packs quite a punch. His Attack skills, when added to his formidable Banishment and Max Prisoner skills, make a high-level Ravus extremely effective in defeating the opposition. Additionally, Ravus has incredibly strong Crystal skills after level 80-90.

  • Customizable individual troop type skilling
  • Banishment attack and HP
  • Max Prisoner stacking attack boost
  • Magitek and Imperial Fortress Skills
  • Elite Magitek Troops
  • Expansion Building production increase
  • Expansion Building build cost decrease
  • Strong Crystal Skills
  • Elemental Expansion building reduction and collection boosts.

  • Expensive to level up
  • Defensive capabilities are not yet proven

Cindy

The newest of the Heroes, Cindy brings some unique skills to the table. Not only does she have multiplier skilling she also allows you to send traps with your Offensive Marches, beginning at Hero Level 50.
